Vasili Ivanovich Alekseev was born on January 7, 1942 in village Pokrovo-Shishkino of the Ryazan region. He is in sport since 1960. He lives in city of Shakhty since September 13, 1966. 1971 he has diploma degree of branch of Novocherkassk polytechnic institute in city of Shakhty.

By opinion of V.K. Dorokhin, Vasili Ivanovich Aleckseev - sportsman, which in base, has made itself. Also has achieved everything that has achieved - itself.

In XX Olympic Games last word was behind V. Alekseev. 640 kg is in the total! V. Alekseev for this victory awarded with the highest government award - order by Lenin.
In 1976 on XXI Olympic Games V. Alekseev again have becomes the Olympic champion with the total 440 kg.
In Olympic Games in Barcelona (1992) under guiding of the principal coach of all-Russia team on weightlifting V. I. Alekseev 10 medals - 5 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze were won.
On October 30, 1996 to V. Alekseev have been appropriated the rank "Honorable citizen of Shakhty city". Based on cities the Regional All-up children-youthful sports school of name V. Alekseev opened.
1999 Greece, V. Alekseev have been recognized by the best sportsman XX century and in February 2000 have been recognized as legend of the Russian sport XX century.
In 2000 Vasili Alekseev has created, with assistance of the mayor of Moscow Y. Lughkov the fund of development of sport in Moscow.
