Protecting the sky of Leningrad, Tatarenko with the comrades has entered fight with the large group bombers. The enemy had the ten-multiple superiority. But our pilots conducted by the assistant of the commander of a squadron 3-rd Guard's fighter's regiment Tatarenko Dmitry with honour got out from fight as winners, having brought down 9 planes of the enemy.

During years of war Tatarenko Dmitry has made more five hundred battle flights, has lead 110 air fights, personally having brought down 14 Luftwaffe planes.

On July 24, 1943 to him appropriated a rank of the Hero of the Soviet Union.
