In May, 1942 he was called on front. Battled under Stalingrad, where was heavy wounded. After recovery has returned in Army and battled under Kursk. He awarded with an order of Aleksandr Nevski. The commander of the artillery battery 434-th shooting regiment 169 shooting brigade Tatarkin on July 12, 1943, supporting attack of shooting battalion by fire of artillery has destroyed 200 soldiers and officers, has destroyed 3 underground fire points, 6 fire points and has suppressed fire of the battery.

In July, 1943 tatarkin' battery defended control point of battalion from the fascists. On July 31, 1943 in fight for the occupied settlement Voloboevo of Znamenski district of the Orel region lieutenant Tatarkin P.E. was lost in fierce fight.

On June 4, 1944 to him appropriated a rank of the Hero of the Soviet Union by death.

One of streets of our city carries the name of Petr Tatarkin.
