April 24 1907, workers were going to listen to the deputy of State Duma Voronkov, how they are solved in Duma problems on improvement of a position workers. However, Voronkov has refused to talk to the miners. Instead of him, major of police called Cossacks' hundred. The official report stated: "In Aleksandrovsk - Grushevski at disperse of crowd, came with the purpose to hear the deputy Voronkov, Cossacks' bullets wound from crowd three men and killed one. Three wounded have died two days later".

There are five high educational schools - mining and energy technical schools, medical, musical, pedagogical schools, and two institutes. Shakhty's the branch of NPI for 25 years has released about 7 thousand engineers. The contingent of the students has grown with 300 up to 4,3 thousand.
